ADVANTAGES
of consumer-directed care
The principle advantages of consumer-directed care are that it costs
less, provides consumers greater participation in decisions concerning their care, allows consumers to individually
select caregivers, provides greater continuity in caregiver relationships, more generously compensates the caregiver,
and supports caregiver entrepreneurship.
BENEFITS
to care providers
• Assistance in identifying client opportunities

• An impartial third-party background-screen and credential-verification service, which enhances a care provider's
marketability by providing consumers with the peace of mind derived from knowing that the care provider has passes
a rigorous screening process undertaken by an independent third- party firm

• The right to remain with a consumer on a continuous basis, so long as the care provider and the consumer wish
to continue the relationship

• The ability to negotiate care objectives with the consumer directly

• The right to earn a larger percentage of the gross amount the consumer pays for home care
• Registries, because of their limited role in a home care transaction, charge relatively
low transaction fees, which result in care provider retaining more of the fee a consumer pays

• The flexibility to pick and choose among service opportunities offered, and thereby select which consumers to
work with, when to work and where to work
• Registries only inform care providers about opportunities available; the care providers
always retain the unqualified right to select which, if any, opportunities to pursue.
